Back in August I was scheduled to meet up with Mary Beth, Steven, Audrey, and Baxter for our annual family photos. This year we decided to change it up a bit, and I would head to Sugarloaf to meet them in one of their most favorite places during their summer vacation. The day came and was looking stormy, but as the day went on the forecast improved, so I hopped in my car and drove the 2.5 hours to the mountains. Being primarily a coastal photographer, I have a good sense of how the weather works around here, but as for the mountains….well, I learned the hard way that things can change on a dime. I arrived at Sugarloaf that afternoon just in time for the skies to open up with torrential downpours, with no end in sight. So, back in my car I hopped, and home I went. While it would have been amazing to photograph these guys in their special place, our misfortune was not a total loss, because we had an amazing session a few weeks ago instead at Kettle Cove on an evening with gorgeous late-fall light, a beautiful coastal backdrop, and a perfect blend of fall colors mixed with summer greens that were not ready to say goodbye quite yet. I’ve been working with this family for several years now, and know that our sessions are going to be fast paced, goofy, fun, and full of love and happiness. And while we were not able to capture all of this in the mountains this year, what matters most was still present with these four and I am so excited about the photos that we created, just a little later in the year than planned. Here are my favorites from this year’s adventurous and fun session with this awesome family.
