The R Family {Higgins Beach} | Scarborough Maine Family Photographer

If you follow me on social media, you know I often use the term “Higgins magic” when referring to sessions at Higgins Beach. There is a reason Higgins is my favorite place for beach sessions, and it’s because the light does something truly magical at this place, especially on nights like the one I had with the R Family two weeks ago. This night was the epitome of “Higgins magic”, and you’ll soon see why. When I left my house, I checked the Higgins webcam as I often do, and the beach looked sunny and beautiful. By the time I arrived a half hour later, a fog bank had rolled in, and I assumed we’d have a fully fogged-in session (gorgeous in its own way!). But over the course of our session, the fog rolled in and out, back in and out again, and then left us with the most magical Higgins sunset. I won’t lie, editing a session with SO much changing light is quite challenging, but it’s the best kind of challenge to make my photos look as incredible as this night with this beautiful family.

This was my first time photographing Bryony, Joe, and their three kiddos – Phoebe, Graeme, and Esme, but I’ve known this family for about a year now. Bryony and I were introduced through a mutual friend last summer and I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know her and becoming her friend over the past year. I had met Esme and Joe a few times, but this was my first time meeting Graeme and Phoebe and it was so wonderful to put faces to the names I have heard so much about. Phoebe lives in Florida and was visiting for Graeme’s high school graduation (Yarmouth High School, Class of 2024, and State Baseball Champion!). Bryony jumped on the chance to do a photo session while her kids were all together, and I’m so happy she did. I have more favorites of this beautiful family than I can share, but I hope you enjoy these photos of this very special family on this very magical Higgins evening. ✨
