Turner & Desmond {Scarborough Football} | Scarborough Maine Photographer

For over ten years now I have taken photos of the extended W Family (see their most recent Higgins beach session here!). This year Amy reached out for an additional session – and it was something so far out of my comfort zone that I actually said no. But my friend Amy is quite persuasive, and also such a huge cheerleader and supporter of my work, that after a good conversation and understanding that we’d be learning together on this one, I said yes, and I am so glad I did.

Amy’s son Turner was just two when I first met and photographed him, and now he is 13, an 8th grader in Scarborough, and a force on the middle school football team. Amy wanted to treat Turner and his friend Desmond to a session where they could feel totally badass in their 8th grade season – with photos of them in their uniforms looking fierce and and as awesome as they are. We went full Americana for this session – taking the photos at Desmond’s family farm in Scarborough, where we utilized the fields, the American flag, the farm scenery, and their tractor, too. I don’t know if I’ve been as nervous as I was before a session since my early wedding days, but I have to give a huge shoutout to everyone involved – Turner, Desmond, and their parents for allowing me to take time to think creatively, play with lighting I don’t often use, hold my gear and my light, and think outside of the box all together to give these boys and awesome night.

They say imitation is the killer of creativity – so rather than trying to create something I’m not, I approached this session with my own vision, my own style of lighting, and did what worked for me rather than trying to imitate what I’ve seen online – and I think together we all created an evening that was so special for these boys and photos that hopefully make them feel like the awesome kids and football players that they are. I’m so excited to share my favorites from this session and cannot thank Amy enough for believing in me and trusting me to do my thing, even when I didn’t know I had it in me. A+ client right there – you are the best, and these boys totally rocked their football session. ❤️
